Joe Raeford Burke, 85, of Staley passed away on Monday, March 2, 2020 at Randolph Hospice House in Asheboro.
The family received friends Sunday, March 8, 2020 from 2 to 3 p.m. at Sandy Branch Baptist Church. The funeral followed at 3 p.m. at Sandy Branch Baptist Church. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Mr. Burke was born in Chatham County on July 6, 1934, the son of Georgie G. and Rosa (Stout) Burke. Raeford was a member of Sandy Branch Baptist Church, the Ixthus Sunday School Class and had served as an usher and on the recreation committee. Raeford had worked for Chatham Novelties and retired from Stout Chair Co.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Langley Burke; sisters, Sarah Margaret Dunn, Roberta Phillips; and brother, Stout Burke.
Raeford is survived by his son, Ronnie Burke of Olivia; brother, Thurman Burke of Bear Creek; and one step-grandson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Sandy Branch Baptist Church, 715 Sandy Branch Church Road, Bear Creek or the Hospice House of Asheboro.
