James Newton Johnson, 88, of Sanford passed away Sunday, December 13, 2020, at Parkview Rest and Retirement Home, Sanford.
Mr. Johnson was born April 14, 1932, a Chatham County native and the son of W.B. “Burlow” and Allene Hinshaw Johnson.
James was a member of the Congregational Christian Church. He loved spending time hunting and fishing. He enjoyed traveling and a good meal. James was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Margie Brafford Johnson; son, Mark Way and wife Crystal of Sanford; brothers, Calvin Johnson and wife Joanne of Siler City, William Earl Johnson and wife Janie of Belews Creek, Charlie Johnson and wife Betty of Cary, Johnny Johnson and wife Brenda of Snow Camp; and grandchildren, Riley, Lila, and Brodie.
Mr. Johnson laid in repose from 12 to 5 p.m. on Monday, December 14, 2020, at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home.
A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, December 15, 2020, at Plainfield Friends Meeting Cemetery, 1956 Plainfield Church Rd., Siler City with Rev. Robert Thomas officiating.
