BEAR CREEK — From start to finish Monday afternoon, the Chatham Central girl’s tennis team dominated visiting Albemarle en route to a convincing 9-0 victory in 1A Yadkin Valley Conference tennis play.

Chatham Central raises its league mark to 7-2 while improving to 9-3-1 overall.

Currently the Bears are chasing Gray Stone Day, who are unbeaten in the YVC and have a two-game lead over the locals after taking the series sweep already this fall.

Against Albemarle, Taylor Hughes got Chatham Central rolling early with an easy 6-0, 6-0 triumph over Morgan Billingly in the top-seeded affair before Sophie Phillips routed Allison Little 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2.

At No. 3, Mary Grace Murchison blanked Hailey Bird 6-0, 6-0 to send Central in front 3-0 before Addie Fields held off Natalie Sedano 6-4, 6-4 at No. 4.

Elizabeth Phillips would clinch the match win for the Lady Bears with a 6-0, 6-0 triumph over Ashley Barcenas at No. 5 before Taylor Ferguson capped the singles sweep for Chatham Central with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Andrea Martinez at No. 6.

In doubles, it was more of the same at Taylor Hughes teamed with twin sister Cameron Hughes for an 8-0 triumph in the top-seeded affair over Billingly and Little.

Murchison and Sophie Phillips combined for an easy 8-1 triumph at No. 2 over Sedano and Bird before Ellie Phillips and Olivia Brooks rolled past Barcenas and Martinez 8-0 at No. 3.
