Chatham County basketball teams hit the road for tournaments

Boys Basketball

Northwood continued its hot start in the Capitol City Classic, beating Woodburn (Oregon) and back to back state champs Tualatin (Oregon) on the way to the championship round.

The Chargers lost to St. Joseph (California) Wednesday, 38-64, finishing the tournament as runner ups.

Seaforth lost its only game of the week to Hillside, 29-66.

Chatham Central remained undefeated after beating South Davidson, 76-58, Wednesday. Junior Luke Gaines scored a team-high 19 points, and senior Aidan Johnson recorded a 12-point, 10-rebound double-double in the win.

Girls Basketball

Seaforth traveled to Cherokee, North Carolina, and won its first game in the Cherokee Invitational (Adalvquodi bracket) over Newton (Georgia) Wednesday, 40-27.

The Hawks lost to Campbell in the second round of its bracket Thursday, 33-36.

Northwood beat Union Pines in the first round of the First Bank Charger Classic Wednesday, 51-23. Sophomore Mikaylah Glover led the way with 14 points.

The Chargers won their second round game over Southern Alamance Thursday, 53-20.

Chatham Central handled South Davidson Wednesday, 62-32. Junior Karaleigh Dodson recorded a career-high 27 points while also grabbing 12 rebounds and five steals.

Jordan-Matthews finished its previously suspended game against Cummings Tuesday, winning, 40-37. Senior Lia Carter scored a team-high 25 points in the win.
