William Burl Edmisten, 79, of Oakley Church Road, Bear Creek died Wednesday, October 24, 2018 at Chatham Hospital.
Mr. Edmisten was born in Caldwell County on September 17, 1939, the son of Burl Shufford and Hazel Ernestine (Tolbert) Edmisten.  Burl was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church and retired from Hydrotex Oil Company as a Division Sales Manager.
Burl was a veteran of the US Marine Corp and took great pride in his service.  Burl was instrumental in the organization of the first rescue squad in Chatham County and was a member of the Siler City Lions Club.  He enjoyed fishing and hunting and time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Burl was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Bobby Edmisten.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Shirley (Gilliland) Edmisten; sons, Jeffery Edmisten and wife Lisa of Bear Creek, William “Todd” Edmisten and wife Deanna of Ramseur; brothers, Rufus Edmisten of Morganton, Tommy Edmisten of Lenior; grandchildren, Adam and wife Kristie, Katelyn, Josh, Justin and Jacob Edmisten.
The family received friends Saturday, October 27, 2018 from 1 to 2 p.m. at Oakley Baptist Church, 2300 Siler City-Glendon Road, Siler City.  The funeral followed Saturday at 2 p.m. at Oakley Baptist Church with Rev. John Edmisten, Rev. Brian Biggers and Rev. Gary Moger officiating.  Burial followed in the church cemetery.
