Wade Herman “Boop” Phillips, 92, passed away on Thursday, November 19, 2020, at the SECU Jim & Betsy Bryan Hospice Home in Pittsboro.

The graveside service was held on Saturday, November 21, 2020, at 12 p.m. at Fall Creek Baptist Church with Rev. George Townsend and Pastor Edwin Moore presiding.

Herman was born in Chatham County on September 26, 1928, to Mattie P. and Ernest C. Phillips. He served in the U.S. Navy and later worked as a USDA poultry inspector for over 30 years. After retirement, he worked at Brookwood Farms. Herman was the choir director and taught the Adult Sunday School at Fall Creek Baptist Church, where he was a member.

In addition to his parents, Herman was preceded in death by his son, Gerry Phillips; three grandchildren; sisters, Stella Sullivan Campbell, Lessie Russell, Lillian Nall; and brother, Roland Phillips.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Lois Phillips of the home; daughter, Cheryl Phillips Baldwin of Goldston; two granddaughters, and six great-grandchildren.
