Van Paul Thomas, 84, of Sanford, passed away on Thursday, (06-07-2018) at Liberty Commons Nursing and Rehabilitation.
A graveside service was held on Saturday, (06-09-2018) at 2 p.m. at Buffalo Cemetery with Chaplain Sam Garris officiating.
He was born in Lee County on October 10, 1933 to the late Hampton and Irene Gilmore Thomas.  Van served his country in the North Carolina National Guard. He worked for many years as a roofer with Baker Roofing, Ed Garner Roofing and retiring from King Roofing. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Ruby Stuart, Mildred Thomas, Magdalene Moody, Alfred Thomas, Jake Thomas, Lucille Darroch, Hampton Jr. Thomas, Claude Thomas, Fred Thomas, Polly Hobbs and Jean Wicker.
He is survived by daughters, Mary Van Thomas Griffin of Sanford,  Darlene Thomas Wilson; brother, Larry Thomas of Sanford;
three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
