SILER CITY — The N.C. Dept. of Transportation will upgrade curbs at 18 intersections in Siler City in the upcoming year. The upgrades will ensure that the curbs adhere to ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) standards.

The project will construct ramps on the sidewalks at the intersections, allowing residents in wheelchairs and those with other physical impairments to cross streets without having to use a curb.

The town will reimburse NCDOT for 20 percent of the actual cost of the work, estimated to be about $170,000, according to interim town manager Roy Lynch. The out-of-pocket costs for the town is estimated to be $34,880. The work is anticipated to begin early next year.
