Northwood upsets 4A Panther Creek in lacrosse

PITTSBORO — The Northwood boys lacrosse team posted its most impressive win of the season April 10 with a 20-7 upset of 4A Panther Creek.

The Chargers, winners of three straight to improve to 5-5, climbed to the .500 mark for the first time since the opening week of the season.

Senior’s Nate Little and Lars Hoeg spearheaded the Northwood victory with six goals apiece. Little chipped in five assists and two take aways in an overall outstanding performance, while Hoeg added an assist and two ground balls.

Also getting in on the scoring for the Chargers Wednesday night were Jake Mann adding three goals and an assist, Dacota Egnaczak two goals and seven assists, Austin Egnaczak two goals, Kade Little a goal and three assists, and Harper Johnson an assist.

In the field, William Lake scooped up eight ground balls and recorded four takeaways to lead the Northwood defensive effort while Sam Kellam added seven ground balls and two assists, Austin Egnaczak six ground balls, and Kade Little seven ground balls.

Kade Little was also strong on faceoffs as the sophomore won 11-of-13 (.846) while Austin Egnaczak was 5-for-7 (.714), and Daniel Sanders 4-of-6 (.667) for the Chargers who were 20-of-28 (.714) as a team.

In goal, Hunter Klingel and Andrew Norman both went 24 minutes with Klingel collecting three saves, and Norman four.
