Billy Edward Webster, 87, of Mt. Vernon Springs Road, Siler City died Thursday, January 16, 2020 at Central Carolina Hospital, Sanford.

Mr. Webster was born in Chatham County on July 31, 1932 the son of James Webster, Jr. and Josie Elizabeth (Johnson) Webster. He was a member of Mt. Vernon Springs Presbyterian Church where he had served as an Elder and on other various committees. Billy was a veteran of the US Army and had been employed for 30 years with Van Thomas Contracting. He was a skilled carpenter with a passion for woodworking: remodeling homes, barns and building cherished pieces of furniture, which he would give to his children and grandchildren. Billy enjoyed dove hunting as well as collecting many things from old handsaws, carpenter tools, guns, knives, pocket watches or pipe lighters.

Billy was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Elaine Clapp Webster; his parents, and a sister, Margaret Guthrie.

He is survived by sons, James Webster of Siler City, Richard Webster and wife Faye of Bennett, Grant Webster of Siler City and Eric Webster and wife Gina of Siler City; sister, Ann W. Phillips and husband Earl of Siler City; grandchildren, Landon Webster and wife Rhonda; Brian Webster and wife Sarah, Jessica Austin and husband Robert, Emily and Lauren Webster; six great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.

The family received friends Sunday, January 19, 2020 from 2 to 3 p.m. at Mt. Vernon Springs Presbyterian Church, 1225 Mt. Vernon Springs Road, Siler City. The funeral followed Sunday at 3 p.m. at Mt. Vernon Springs Presbyterian Church with Rev. Bill Browder officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
