The winter precipitation that fell early Sunday morning was enough to cause some major headaches for motorists. While most managed to stay on the roads, there were plenty that wound up in the ditches and medians on the highways.
Over 5,000 residents were without power Sunday afternoon and crews were out repairing lines to provide service back to those affected.
The forecast for Sunday was a high of 34 and the lows Sunday night were 32 degrees, enough to refreeze many spots on the road. Monday's forecast was rain and a high of 38 degrees.
Chatham County's public school system reported they will be closed on Monday, December 10, due to the road conditions in the county. Chatham Charter has also cancelled their classes on Monday.
