Wallace Sylvester Gragg, Jr., 91, of Chapel Hill passed away Wednesday, (07-25-2018) .
Funeral services will be held Saturday, (08-04-2018) at 1 p.m. at Mount Carmel Baptist Church, Chapel Hill, with Rev. Barrett Freeman and Rev. Dr. Virginia Taylor presiding. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will follow the burial in the church fellowship hall.
Born September 19, 1926 in Black Mountain, he was born to Wallace S. Gragg, Sr. and Ruby Kerlee Gragg. He was preceded in death by his wife of 72 years, Esta Beatrice Honeycutt. He served in the US Army in the Pacific Theater during the Second World War in in Korea and Japan, after which he resumed his employment at Swannanoa Laundry and then for 25 years with the Southern Railway (later Norfolk and Southern) . He was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church where he was in the Sanctuary Choir and the Martin Sparrow Class.
Survivors are daughters, Priscilla G. Farr of Longview, TX, Teresa Modlin Perdue of Chapel Hill; a sister, Scotland Gragg of Golden; seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
