Virgil Cecil Barker, 74, of Siler City died Tuesday, January 1, 2019 at Chatham Hospital.
Mr. Barker was born in Chatham County on February 3, 1944, the son of Johnie Barker, Sr. and Dena (Hicks) Barker. Virgil had worked for Boling Chair as a saw operator. He enjoyed woodworking, being outside, hunting and gardening.
Virgil was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Allene Hart, Rachel Phillips, Christine Harris, Virginia Justice; and brother, David Barker.
He is survived by wife, Beulah Caviness; children, Kenneth Barker (Missy) and Lora Caviness; grandchildren, Justin Riddle, Ashley Gunter, Haley Riddle, Cory Barker, Luke Barker; brothers, Johnie Barker, Jr. and Earl Barker (Cynthia); sisters, Juanita Richardson (Ronnie) and Frances Gilmore.
The family received friends Sunday, January 6, 2019 from 12 to 2 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home. The funeral followed at 2 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home Chapel, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City with Rev. Michael Poindexter officiating. Burial followed in Brush Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, Bear Creek.
