Two Chatham County Roads to Close for Pipe Replacements

Roads will close at pipe locations Aug. 5

SILER CITY – N.C. Department of Transportation maintenance crews temporarily will close two roads in Chatham County next week to replace pipes under the road.

The following roads will be closed to through-traffic from Monday, Aug. 5, until Friday, Aug. 23:

  • Hamlets Chapel Road, a half mile west of U.S. 15-501

  • Silk Hope Gum Springs Road, off Silk Hope Road

The closures will allow the NCDOT crews to replace drainage pipes damaged by Hurricanes Florence and Michael with upgraded culverts that will be capable of better handling future floodwaters.

A detour for Hamlets Chapel Road will send drivers onto Moore Mountain Road. And traffic will use Silk Hope Lindley Mill Road, Epps Clark Road and White Smith Road to go around the closure on Silk Hope Gum Springs Road.

Drivers using these routes should expect delays and watch for detour signs.
