McKenna Snively’s
three-pointer from the left
corner with 31.4 seconds to
play snapped the fourth tie of
the contest before Northwood
managed to hold off Jordan-
Matthews in the closing
seconds to capture a 38-35
non-conference victory over
its cross-county rival Saturday
evening in Frank N. Justice
Gymnasium.

Sweeping the season series
with the Lady Jets for the
sixth consecutive time, the
Lady Chargers raised their
overall record to 7-3, whereas
J-M sank to 4-10 for the
year.

Chandler Adams led the way
for Northwood with a dozen
points, while Ellia Wright
collected 14 points and Jocelyn
Mitchell tossed in 10 for
Jordan-Matthews.

On a night when baskets
were hard to come by, the
Lady Chargers only connected
on 29% (11-of-38) of their
field goal attempts, while the
Lady Jets shot just 24% (11-
of-45) from the floor.

Ironically, both squads fared
much better from the foul
line. Northwood converted
15-of-22 (68%) of its free
throw attempts, while J-M was
successful on 12-of-18 (67%)
of its tries from the charity
stripe.

Each team experienced a
rash of missed opportunities ended with Jordan-Matthews
clinging to a 7-5 lead. Both
clubs made just one-of-10 of
their field goal attempts in the
period while combining to
commit 15 turn-overs.

Following a Jaela Harris
layup that gave the Lady
Chargers an 11-10 advantage
with 3:17 left in the second
stanza, the lead changed
hands six times prior to
Wright’s trey from the left
wing at the horn which put
the Lady Jets up 19-17 at
halftime.

J-M fashioned the biggest
lead by either team at 29-21
on Jasmine Scotton’s inbounds
layup with 3:46 to
go in the third quarter before
Northwood rallied with a
pair of Adams free throws
plus Rae McClarty’s two foul
shots and lane drive to whittle
the margin to two entering the
final eight minutes.

Following ties at 29 and
31-all, the Lady Chargers
opened up a four-point advantage
on two more Adams
charity tosses and Kaya Hill’s
rebound bucket in the lane
with 5:28 remaining to play,
but the Lady Jets battled back
to forge a 35-all standoff on
back-to-back Wright hoops
with 1:33 left.

Barely a minute later Snively
swished her game-winning
trey, but the action was far
from over.

In a scramble for a
loose ball under Jordan-Matthews’
basket with just
seconds left, a brief skirmish
ensued which resulted in
the ejection of three players
– J-M’s Scotton along with
Northwood’s Hill and Jyreah
Smith.

When play was resumed
with one second on the
clock, the Lady Jets inbounded
the ball to Wright
out on the left wing, but her
hurried three-point attempt
was wide of the mark as the
horn sounded.
