Shirley Caddell Gaines McNeill, 83, of Siler City went to be with the Lord on Monday, September 3, 2018.
Shirley was born in Sanford, NC, daughter of James Malone and Annie Mae Lopp Caddell. She was preceded in death by her husband, William (Bill) McNeill and sister, Sally Gill.
She retired from Chatham Central High School where she worked as the school’s secretary and guidance office secretary where she loved all of her “CCHS” children. She loved going to church and served in many capacities. She also volunteered at the Chatham County Food Bank where she loved helping others. One of her greatest joys was watching her 13 grandchildren and ten great grandchildren grow.
She is survived by her children, Cecelia Gaines Kidd and husband Dale of Sanford, Gail Gaines Kendrick and husband Randy of Mechanicsville, VA, John Thomas Gaines, Jr. of Bear Creek; a host of family and friends; her brother, James S. (Jimmy) Caddell and wife Jean of Ft. Worth, TX; step-children, Gregory S. McNeill of Lexington, Dorcas M. Lamb of Asheboro, and Keith McNeill of Asheboro.
The family received friends Thursday, September 6, 2018 from 1:30 – 2:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 314 North 2nd Ave., Siler City, NC. The funeral followed on Thursday at 3 p.m. at First Baptist Church with Rev. Tony Capehart officiating. Burial followed in Bear Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family has requested in lieu of flowers contributions be made to the kitchen fund at the First Baptist Church, 314 N 2nd Ave, Siler City, NC 27344.
