Letters: ‘Ruining a good local paper’

Posted

To the editor:

Your column last week (“More reader feedback, from the ‘pitiful’ to the pleased...,” Sept. 26-Oct. 2) is like the third one addressing the issue of dissatisfied readers. I expressed my concern about your tact in an email this past February. All the negative comments you have received and communicated to us readers through your editorials are true. There’s no need for me to re-state them.

I have let my subscription lapse and do not plan to renew it.

You need to move your office to Pittsboro, or better yet to Sanford, and give your family all the editorial control and subject matter control that is evident in the by-lines...which you have every right to allow as owner.

The Chatham News+Record has become a rag. I say this in the kindest of spirit. There are those who like that kind of thing. I don’t.

I like hard, spirited, local news and Jeff Davis’ soft spot for local pictures ranging from bald eagles over Jordan Lake to kids playing together in Boling Park. I couldn’t care less for the biography of a Chatham County government employee or a movie review.

You are ruining a good local paper. My $45 won’t matter, but I am/was a number for your advertising presentations so maybe I will count in some miniscule way to forcing you to consider a review of your approach to our local news.
