Roger Nils Phillips, 68, of Mooresville, NC, slipped from the embrace of his loving family into the arms of his Lord and Savior Saturday, September 1, 2018.
Born September 23, 1949 in Siler City, NC, to the late Gails W. Phillips and Jessie R. Phillips, Roger was a graduate of Oak Ridge Military Academy and Atlantic Christian College. He was a member of Lake
Forest Church in Huntersville. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Judith Gail (Phillips) Templeton.
Roger is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 47 years, Katherine Stanley Phillips and their twin sons, Brian S. Phillips of Suwanee, GA and Todd S. Phillips (Jenny)  of Charleston, SC, as well as his nieces, Amanda Heidinger (Doug) of Charlotte and Lisa Holleman (Tim) of Gibsonville, NC, three great-nephews and two great-nieces.
Roger’s career in the poultry industry began in his early teens working for his father at Chick Sales, the Carolina Poultry, Inc. hatchery in Siler City.  After graduation from college, he returned to Siler City and thru ensuing years managed every aspect of live production for Carolina Poultry.  An opportunity with Showell Farms resulted in the family’s relocation to Salisbury, MD in 1987, returning to NC in 1995 with Perdue Farms.  He retired from Perdue Farms in 2014 as Director of Breeder Operations.  In addition to his work life, he was proud to contribute time and resources to the development of the motorsports series Streetwise Drift which his sons established in 2009.
An active sportsman throughout his life, Roger’s love of surfing, boating, fishing, and hunting with his Curly Coated Retrievers was shared enthusiastically with family and friends.  At his request, he will take one last ride on his long board with his beloved sons who will scatter his ashes in the surf in front of the family cottage at Holden Beach.  A memorial gathering of family and friends will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pheasants Forever (see www.pheasantsforever.org), the Curly Coated Retriever Club of America (see www.CCRCA.org) or to a local animal shelter or rescue organization of your choice (NOT affiliated with the ASPCA or HSUS.)
Cavin-Cook Funeral Home & Crematory, Mooresville, is serving the Phillips family.
