PEGGY JEAN MURRAY CHEEK

Peggy Jean Murray Cheek, 87, of Greensboro, formerly of Siler City, passed away on Tuesday, November 17, 2020.

Mrs. Cheek was born February 25, 1933, the daughter of Joseph Taft Murray and Addie Irene Smith Murray.

Peggy was a member of West End United Methodist Church. Outside of taking care of her home, she was an Aide at Cross Road Retirement Community. She loved reading, going on trips to the beach and swinging on the porch. She made the best potato salad. Peggy had a great love for her family and they loved being around her as she was a card and was always making people laugh, she had “no filter”. She cherished taking care of her family and watching her grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother, James “Noose” Murray and son-in-law, Ricky Ledbetter.

She is survived by her daughters, Kathy McGowan and husband David of Asheboro, Mary Beth Ledbetter of Vass, Darlene Cheek and Jean Brown, both of Greensboro; and son, Joey Cheek and wife Sheila of Crestview, Florida; grandchildren, Laura and Brian Cheek, Heather Tilley and husband Daniel, Adrianne Phillips and husband John, Marandi, Elizabeth and Sarah Ledbetter, Lindsay Rossi and husband Brad; and great grandchildren, Preston, Devin, Addie and Beckett.

Mrs. Cheek laid in repose on Thursday, November 19, 2020, from 12 to 5 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City. A private graveside service was held on Friday, November 20, 2020, at Oakwood Cemetery, N. Chatham Ave., Siler City with Rev. Jim Whittaker officiating.
