PITTSBORO — The Northwood baseball team remained hot Wednesday evening as the Chargers destroyed visiting Northern Durham 10-0 in five innings.

Northwood improved to 6-1 in the 3A Big Eight Conference and to 10-4 overall while Northern Durham continued it spiral downward with at 1-2 in the league and 2-7 overall.

The Chargers plated a run in the first to go up 1-0 and never looked back, sending across three more in the second, and six in the third to blow the game open at 10-0.

That was more than enough run support for starter Tyler Johnson who picked up the win after going three innings and allowing three hits and striking out five.

Dylan Hitt notched the save with two innings of work that included allowing two hits, a walk and fanning three.

The Chargers pounded out 10 hits on the day led by Tyler Johnson and Landon Johnson, both of whom went 2-for-3. Tyler Johnson collected an RBI with a double and Landon Johnson scored a pair of runs with a double.

Michael Posse chipped in a 1-for-3 effort with a run, an RBI and a double while Deuce Powell added a 1-for-2 effort with a double, a run and an RBI, Brandon Crabtree was 1-for-3 with two runs and an RBI, Beau Weathers 1-for-2 with two runs, Hitt 1-for-2 with two runs, and Jacob Sczcypinski 1-for-3. Crabtree, Hitt and Landon Johnson stole a base apiece.

Northern Durham was led by Colin Scoggins who was 2-for-2 with a double while Zach McMullen was 1-for-1, and Cole Singsank 1-for-3 with a double.

Tanner Horton took the loss on the mound after going 2.2 innings and allowing eight hits, nine runs (three earned), a walk and a strikeout, while Scroggins yielded three hits, a run and struck out one in 1.1 innings of relief.
