A N.C. Dept. of Health and Human Services update just before 11 a.m. on Wednesday stated the number of confirmed cases in North Carolina is up to 63, with three cases confirmed in Chatham County. The number of tests completed by the state lab and reporting hospital and commercial laboratories is at 1,850. NCDHHS Secretary Dr. Mandy K. Cohen has previously noted that while all positive testing results are reported to the state, private companies may not be providing the numbers of the tests performed.
Yesterday, the N.C. Governor Roy Cooper issued and executive order closing sit-down service at restaurants and bars and made changes to the regulations governing unemployment beneifits to make it more widely available to those who may be losing their jobs due to the virus' spread. Chatham County and the town of Siler City both issued state of emergency declarations yesterday and are making changes to protocols to protect the public and staff.
