Del Turner is keeping her seat.

The final numbers from the Chatham County Board of Elections are in following final canvass on Thursday, and Dist. 3 board of education challenger Jessica Winger didn't earn enough votes to call for a recount against incumbent Turner.

The Chatham County Board of Elections counted more than 350 absentee and provisional ballots at its canvass meeting Thursday. The results showed Turner received 162 votes and Winger received 156 votes, giving Turner a 1.4% margin of victory.

Turner will retain the seat she's had on the Board of Education since 2010.

With all precincts reporting last on Nov. 8, Election Night, Turner has a 462-vote lead and remains 1.35 points ahead of Winger. She increased her lead after canvass results Thursday.

Winger could have called for a recount if the margin was within 1%. It was unclear if she would have called for the action and she did not respond to the question from the News + Record.

"In such a tight race, I feel duty-bound to make sure every last vote is counted," a statement on her campaign Facebook page said. "Let us be patient as we await the final elections canvas. I believe that as citizens of Chatham, we can expect the American political process to be played out fairly and through a well-established set of rules. Pray for our community and give patience in this democratic process."

This is a developing story and will be updated as information becomes available.
