On October 8, 2018, Martha “Ann” Lasater, age 77, of Indian Harbour Beach, FL, formerly of Surfside Beach, SC, was called on by God to continue her spiritual journey in heaven.
Ann was born in Chatham County, NC on November 15, 1940, and was raised in Pittsboro, NC.
Ann was once a stay at home mom, later receiving a degree in English from the University of New York. Ann used her degree to pursue a career as a technical writer at IBM, and enjoyed traveling the country as a loyal employee, meeting new people wherever she went.
Ann excelled as a writer, winning an award for technical writing from the Society of Technical Communication, and an award for an essay by the South Carolina Writer’s Workshop. She also self-published three books and numerous articles on spirituality.
A lifelong member of the Unity Church, faith was extremely important to Ann. We suspect God has a special assignment for her, possibly keeping up the “Pearly Gates” newsletter, as she often wrote newsletters for various organizations.
Ann is survived by her daughter, Julie Austin of Los Angeles, CA; and son, Donald Parnell and his wife Carrie of Merritt Island, FL; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her parents, Walter Clem Lasater and Jo Catherine Farrell Lasater; and 3 brothers, James Earl Lasater, Robert (Bob) Joe Lasater and Walter Harold Lasater.
In keeping with the wishes of Ann, no funeral services will be held. Ann’s wish was to spend eternity among the blue oceans, with her ashes being spread within the Atlantic Ocean at a later date. She asked that donations be made to a charity of choice in her name, or pay it forward with a good deed to help someone in need.
Although her spirit will be missed, she accomplished her mission here on Earth, and is now among the angels making them smile.
