SANFORD — Central Carolina Community College golf coach Jonathan Hockaday is looking for a good team this fall.

“This team has the potential to be one of the better teams that CCCC has ever had,” said Hockaday, who is entering his seventh season as head coach. “We have a core group of solid players that I am excited to coach. There are three guys who could end up being our No. 1 player at some point this season, which I think will help push everyone to be their best.”

Derrick Jeffries of Northwood High School in Pittsboro leads the cast of returnees for the Cougars in 2019 and will be counted on for his leadership.

“Derrick is our only returning player and I look for him to be a leader this season,” said Hockaday.

Ben Lineberry of Siler City and Chatham Charter High School is also on the squad as a freshman.

“Ben has only been playing for a few years, but I expect him to be one of our most consistent golfers,” the coach said.

Other members of the 2019-2020 CCCC golf team include:

Lee Bass (Triton High School): “Lee was a good high school player who we are excited to have with us. Lee loves the game and will be able to push the other guys for the top spot on the team.”

Cody Griffin (Fuquay-Varina High School): “Cody is a hard worker who loves the game. He is someone who can continue to get better and push the other guys. I think he has a lot of potential.”

Robert Langley (Southern Lee High School): “Robert has only been playing golf for a year or two, but is a good player who I expect to be one of our top golfers.”

Gabriel Osborne (Home Schooled, Sanford, NC): “Gabriel will be a major part of any success this team has. He is a good player and should be one of our top golfers.”
