Lady Chargers fall to 4A Cougars in lacrosse

WAKE FOREST — Wake Forest used an 8-3 run in the opening half to spearhead a lopsided 19-5 whipping of visiting Northwood last Tuesday afternoon in area girls lacrosse action.

The Lady Chargers fell to 0-5 in its inaugural season while Cougars improved to 5-3.

Northwood freshman Kendall Laberge had a great game for the locals, scoring four goals and scooping up six ground balls.

Bekah Smith tallied the other goal for the Lady Chargers in the loss while Jenna Konowitz added six ground balls, and Julia Cohen five ground balls.

Wake Forest was led by junior Daisy Colvin who torched the Northwood defense for seven goals and an assist while also adding a ground ball and two takeaways.

All told, five Cougars scored on the evening with Makenzy Backus chipping in four goals and an assist, Olivia John three goals, three assists and three ground balls, Morgan Probasco three goals, two assists, four ground balls and two takeaways, and Amelia Lester two goals and three groundballs.

Madi Horrell took the loss in goal for Northwood while Izzy Espoile notched eight saves to get the win for Wakefield, while Andrea Polacsek chipped in eight more saves in relief.
