Knights win big, seize the title in tourney

The Chatham Charter boy’s basketball team defended their house.

The Knights rolled past Cornerstone Academy 62-36 on Saturday evening to lay claim to the 2018 Chatham Charter Winter Slam Tournament at Julia B. Milholen Gymnasium in Siler City.

Jordan Hamilton, a 6’4 junior forward, was a one man wrecking crew down in the paint, pumping in a game-high 20 points for Chatham Charter (13-0).

Hamilton scored four in the opening period while Ryan White added a trey, and A.J. Alston three more points to spark the locals to a 12-4 lead after one quarter.

The Knights continued to pour it on in the second with a 16-9 advantage to race in front by a comfortable 28-13 lead at the half.

Hamilton collected nine points in the second for Chatham Charter while Bagio Rodriguez added five. Noah Edwards countered with four for Cornerstone.

In the third quarter, it was Cole Milholen taking over for Chatham Charter as the junior guard struck for seven points while Hamilton added three, and White, Trevor Golden and Connor Murphy two each to send the Knights up 44-26 entering the fourth.

Daniel Carson had five points, including a trey, for the Cardinals in the third while Edwards added three.

Chatham Charter put the finishing touches on the 62-36 blowout win with an 18-10 run in the fourth. Hamilton had five points down low for the Knights while Dashon Sutton added five including a trey, Tyler Dettmer four and Murphy three.

Elijah Edwards tallied six points for Cornerstone in the period.

Offensively, Murphy added nine points and Milholen seven in the win for Chatham Charter.

Elijah Edwards paced Cornerstone with 11 points while Daniel Carson chipped in eight, and Noah Edwards seven.
