Harvey P. Harman, Sr. formerly of Mechanicsburg, PA, died at his home in Boerne, TX at age 88. He was born to Joseph Harman and Annie May Sanders Harman in Harrisburg, PA. He lived and died with Parkinson’s disease. Harvey was predeceased by his parents and eight of his siblings.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Joan; two daughters, Beryl Singer of Amherst, MA, and Amy Anderson and her husband John of Boerne, TX; two sons, Wayne J. Harman, Sr. and his wife Christina of Valparaiso, IN, and Harvey P Harman, Jr. and his wife Nancy of Bear Creek, NC; two sisters, Erma Harman Hackedorn of Harrisburg, PA, and Clara Harman Helsel of Athens, GA; a brother, Marlin Harman of Enola, PA; 14 grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren living in numerous states.
Harvey graduated from Slippery Rock University and Penn State University with advanced degrees in education. He served in the U.S. Army, including 18 months in Occupied Germany 1954-55. His teaching career spanned over 30 years, retiring from Lemoyne Middle School, West Shore School District. Harvey was very productive in his retirement serving as plant doctor at a nursery; crafting baskets, brooms and furniture; and painting in oils plus other two-dimensional arts.
Burial will be a private ceremony in Boerne, TX.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church Building Fund, 44 West Main Street, Shiremanstown, PA 17011. Harvey was a member there for almost 50 years.
