Greensboro doubles up Eastern Randolph 6-3 in American Legion opener

RAMSEUR — Eastern Randolph Post 81 opened the 2019 American Legion season on Sunday night at Grady Lawson Field in Ramseur with a tough 6-3 loss to Greensboro Post 53.

Post 81 played from behind the entire contest in the Area III Northern Division match up as the visitors from up in Guilford County way sent three runs across in the top of the first before later extending a 3-1 lead with a run in the third, and two more in the fourth to jump in front 6-1.

Eastern Randolph (0-1, 0-1) countered with two runs in the fifth but could not score again in the seven inning affair.

Mason Canoy recorded two for Post 81 in the loss while Samuel Murchison added a double, and Nate Canter and Camden Fuquay a single each.

Chandler Kime suffered the defeat in his first senior legion start for Eastern Randolph.

Greensboro (1-0, 1-0) was led by two hits and an RBI from Cody Daniel while Alden Kolessar added a base hit and an RBI.

Matt Stanley went four innings and allowed four hits and striking out two in picking up the win on the mound for Post 53.

Eastern Randolph has a full week ahead with a game at Stanly County on Tuesday, at Mocksville on Thursday, at Davidson on Friday, at Kernersville ( 3 pm) on Saturday, before hosting Garner at 2 pm in Ramseur on Monday.
