Pittsboro – Edith Jewell Crowder Gilmore, daughter of Jeanette Mitchell Crowder Terrell and Emory Burton Crowder (both deceased) passed away on August 1, 2018.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 68 years, Meade Julius Gilmore, Sr., son Meade Julius Gilmore, Jr., sisters, Barbara Crowder Allred, Peggy Crowder Horne, and brothers Burton Lee (Bub) Crowder and Jon Bruce (J.B.) Crowder.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Drusilla G. Register, Timothy N. Gilmore (Jinx), J. Scott Gilmore, Kathi D. Gilmore (Sharon), Randy J. Gilmore (Sonya), and Frankie Gilmore Jones (David).
Beloved grandchildren: Melinda Gilmore Cleary, Jennifer Hill McNemar (Dan), April M. Gilmore (Lema), Brian Gilmore, Brad Gilmore, Todd Gilmore, Megan Gilmore, Tyler Gilmore, Brianna Gilmore, Brent Harkey, Elizabeth Merkh, and Ryan Sikes (Morgan).
Beloved great grandchildren: Amanda Cleary, Caleb Cleary, Teagan McNemar, Aidan McNemar, Meade T. Gilmore, Daxton Gilmore, Scottie Jones, Donnie Goodman, Chandler Adams, Corbett Tyson, and Meri-Carsyn Harkey.
She is also survived by several nieces and nephews, her beloved niece Mildred Johnson, and her half-brother Michael H. Crowder.
Kind, compassionate, and faithful were all words frequently used to describe our mother.
Her first love was her family, but her second love was serving others. Having lost her firstborn son during his active military service, she was a long-time member of AMVETS and was the 1999 NC Ladies Auxiliary Member of the Year (Post 635 Raleigh). She always volunteered her time and talents wherever she felt they were needed. From collecting box tops for local schools, eyeglasses for the New Eyes for the Needy program, volunteering at the VA, or serving as a children’s advocate for the John Tracy Clinic and Ronald McDonald houses, she never refused an opportunity to help others.
A memorial service was conducted by Rev. Ray Gooch at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday August 4, 2018 at Pleasant Hill Methodist Church in Siler City with a private family interment held at a later time.
