Democrat Natalie Murdock wins reelection for NC Senate District 20

Murdock has served over two terms in the Senate.

RALEIGH — Democratic Incumbent Natalie Murdock (D) has defeated Republican challenger Christopher Partain for the NC Senate District 20 seat. The district covers Chatham County and portions of Durham County.

Election results are still unofficial, however, with all precincts reporting, Murdock has received 56.20% of the vote to Partain's 43.80%.

Murdock, the first Black woman under the age of 40 to serve in the NC Senate, has served over two terms in the Senate. 

Compared to the 2022 race, Murdock received a slightly smaller share of Chatham County’s votes this time around. Two years ago, the county gave 57.76 % of its votes to Murdock and the other 42.24% to her Republican opponent Alvin Reed.

Chatham County Board of Education District 1 – Ana Carlson, 31,228 votes (98.31%); Write-in, 538 votes (1.69%)

Chatham County Board of Education District 2 – David Hamm, 25,598 votes (62.42%); Jody Cleven, 15,160 votes (36.97%); Write-in, 251 votes (0.61%)

Chatham Soil and Water Conservation District Supervisor – J. Lynn Mann, 32,540 votes (98.81%); Write-in, 391 votes (1.19%)

Town of Cary Housing Bonds Referendum – No, 1,882 votes (57.52%); Yes, 1,390 votes (42.48%)

Town of Cary Parks and Recreation Bonds Referendum – No, 2,061 votes (62.97%); Yes, 1,212 votes (37.03%)
