Chatham County Manager Dan LaMontagne told the News + Record Thursday morning that the county government was in the process of exploring what a shelter-in-place order would look like in Chatham.
"As many of our neighboring counties are executing or contemplating stay-at-home/shelter-in-place orders, Chatham is also considering such an option as a possible next step to further control the spread of COVID-19 in the county," LaMontagne told the News + Record by email on Thursday. "Before taking such action, we would first discuss specifics and review the proposed language with leadership of the towns, the Sheriff and the police chiefs."
Multiple areas across North Carolina — including Mecklenburg and Durham counties — have issued shelter-in-place orders in response to COVID-19.
Chatham County Board of Commissioners Chair Karen Howard told the (Raleigh) News & Observer on Wednesday that the county "is drafting a stay at home order...similar to what" other areas are issuing, and that "details could be worked out Thursday."
But LaMontagne told the News + Record that the county is "not yet working with a proposed draft" as of Thursday morning, but "if and when we enact such an order, it would most likely be similar to the orders issued in our neighboring counties."
