Chatham County scores and schedules: Dec. 14 through 20

Here are scores and schedules for Chatham County high school athletics from Monday, Dec. 14 to Sunday, Dec. 20. This story will be updated throughout the week.

Monday, Dec. 14

Volleyball: Randleman swept Jordan-Matthews 3-0 (25-3, 25-5, 25-6) in Siler City. The Jets dropped to 2-4 on the season.

Volleyball: Chatham Central dropped a tight, five-set thriller on the road at North Stanly (12-25, 25-19, 25-22, 20-25, 12-15). Senior Grace Jones had 11 kills, junior Ivey Tillman had six blocks and the team had 12 total aces. The Bears dropped to 4-5, while the Comets moved to 8-0.

Volleyball: In a non-conference match, host school North Moore swept Woods Charter 3-0 (25-19, 25-17, 25-18). Freshman Lexi Smollen had 16 kills; junior Jana Thompson had four assists and 15 digs.

Tuesday, Dec. 15

Volleyball: In a second consecutive home match for Jordan-Matthews, the Jets were swept 3-0 by Eastern Randolph (25-14, 25-17, 25-16). Read full coverage here.

Volleyball: Chatham Charter moved to 3-2 on the season with a 3-1 home match win over Research Triangle (25-27, 25-16, 25-19, 25-18). Senior Morgan Lineberry had a team-high 13 kills, while senior Sydney Bowman had a team-high 21 digs and nine assists.

Volleyball: Chapel Hill at Northwood, 6 p.m. (canceled)

Wednesday, Dec. 16

Cross country: Chatham Charter hosted Cornerstone Charter in a home conference meet.

Cross country: Research Triangle at Woods Charter, 3:30 p.m. (canceled due to weather)

Cross country: Northwood at Northern Durham, 4 p.m. (postponed due to weather)

Thursday, Dec. 17

Cross country: Jordan-Matthews logged yet another clean sweep of conference opponents, beating Trinity and Eastern Randolph in a home meet. Once again, Robert Train (first place, 20:12) and Jasmine Basilio (second place, 27:21) were the Jets’ top finishers in the men’s and women’s five-kilometer races, respectively.

Volleyball: Northwood at Orange, 6 p.m. (canceled)

Volleyball: Jordan-Matthews dropped to 0-3 on the week with a 3-0 loss at the hands of Randleman.

Volleyball: Chatham Charter swept Woods Charter, 3-0, in Chapel Hill (25-14, 25-11, 25-13). The Knights, who won their third consecutive match, moved to 4-2 behind a solid performance from senior Sydney Bowman (six aces, nine assists and 11 digs).

Swimming and diving: Jordan-Matthews swam in its season opener against Asheboro and Wheatmore at the Randolph-Asheboro YMCA. All-American Jennah Fadely placed first in the women’s 100-meter free (1:03.50) and 100-meter breaststroke (1:14.66), while Ainsley Canipe and Emma Wieber also swam.

Friday, Dec. 18

Swimming and diving: Jordan-Matthews logged three first-place finishes in a meet in Greensboro against Smith and McMichael High. Ainsley Canipe finished first in the women’s 100-yard backstroke, and Jennah Fadely finished first in the women’s 200-yard IM and 100-yard breaststroke. Emma Wieber logged a fourth-place finish in the women’s 100-yard freestyle.

Volleyball: Chatham Central roared back after dropping the first set to beat South Stanly, 3-1, on the road (18-25, 25-15, 25-22, 25-20). The match pulled the Bears to 3-3 in conference.
