Gray Stone Day doubles-up Chatham Central in boys' tennis

MISENHEIMER — Gray Stone Day doubled up Chatham Central 6-3 Wednesday afternoon in Misenheimer in a 1A Yadkin Valley Conference tennis match.

Chatham Central fell to 0-2 in league play and to 0-2 overall with the loss while Gray Stone Day improved to 3-0 in the YVC and to 3-0 overall.

Jayden Gilliland led the Bears with a 6-0-, 6-1 victory over Robert Shelton in No. 1 singles action while also combining with Preston Cox to take an 8-1 rout of Shelton and Marshall Overcash in the top-seeded singles affair.

Cox also collected a triumph at No. 2 singles in what was the most entertaining match of the day. Cox, battling Overcash, took the opening set 6-4 before falling 6-3 in the second. With the match on the line, Cox pulled out a 10-7 in the tiebreaker set.
