Charles Delano Groce, 79, of Goldston died Thursday, October 11, 2018 at Sanford Health & Rehab, Sanford.
Mr. Groce was born September 29, 1939 in Chatham County, NC, the son of William Carl Groce Sr. and Beulah Irene Harmon Groce. He was retired as a truck driver from West Pointe Stevens and Cone Mills in Greensboro. Charles also drove for Pomona Pipe Company, Fleig Leasing, FCX Trucking and Lee Moore Oil Company in Sanford. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Katherine Groce, Frances G. Keck, brothers, William Carl Groce, Jr., Tommy and George Groce.
He was a member of Rives Chapel Baptist Church and attended Goldston Baptist Church where he was a member of the Brotherhood class. He loved working outside, cooking BBQ, reading and traveling. He worshipped his grandson, Elijah.
He is survived by his wife, Bobbie Ore Gaines; daughter, Carman G. Jordan of Siler City; grandson: Elijah Charles Everwine; sisters, Barbara Teague and Margie Cockman, both of Siler City; step-daughters, Jackie Lowe of Snow Camp and Rada Dale Brewer of Little River, SC; step-grandchildren, Dustin Lowe, Collin and Grant Brewer.
The family received friends on Sunday, October 14, 2018 from 3 to 4 p.m. at Goldston Baptist Church, 190 North Church Street, Goldston NC, 27252. The funeral followed at 4 p.m. at Goldston Baptist Church, with the Rev. Mitch Watson, Pastor William Fields, and Dr. Tripp Foltz. Burial followed in Rives Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery, 4338 Rives Chapel Church Road, Siler City.
