Completing a sweep of its annual
non-conference series with
J-M for the third year in a row,
Northwood lifted its record to
8-4 for the season while the Jets
dropped to 4-10 overall.
Jalen McAfee registered 15
points to spearhead an effective
Chargers’ offense that distributed
the scoring amongst 10
different players.
Deuce Powell and Alex
Snively chipped in eight points
apiece whereas Aaron Ross and
Justin Brower each finished
with six as Northwood shot
24-of-43 (56 percent) from the
floor while only committing
seven turnovers.
Caleel Waden was the lone
Jordan-Matthews player in
double figures with 11 points
as J-M connected on 13-of-32
(41 percent) of its field goal
attempts and commanded a 26-
23 advantage on the glass while
turning the ball over 19 times.
With McAfee and Powell
combining for eight points,
the Chargers built a 12-2 lead
five-and-a-half minutes into the
contest before a layup by the
Jets’ Tucker Moore sliced the
margin to eight by the end of
the initial stanza.
Northwood forged its biggest
advantage of the first half at 26-7
following McAfee’s trey from
behind the top of the key with
2:34 left until intermission prior
to back-to-back three-pointers by
Waden and Camden Fuquay that
sparked a 10-6 quarter-ending
spurt by Jordan-Matthews that
trimmed the difference to 32-17
at the break.
Following Waden’s trey from
the left wing that drew J-M within 36-22 with 6:21 to go
in the third period, the Chargers
proceeded to close out
the frame with a 12-2 run that
boosted their lead to 24 after
three quarters.
Brower’s turnaround jumper
off the right baseline to begin
the fourth stanza allowed
Northwood to equal its largest
advantage of the evening, and
despite the Jets’ Huston Causey
pouring in a trio of three-pointers
over the remainder of the
period Jordan-Matthews could
never get its deficit under 20
points the rest of the game.
