PITTSBORO — The Chatham County Board of Education has named Kiley Brown as the system’s director for accountability and testing.

In her new role, Brown will lead the district’s testing and accountability efforts to support the academic achievement of all students across the district. In addition, Brown will oversee student information and PowerSchool.

Brown has 15 years of experience in education, including as a teacher, counselor, assistant principal, principal and K-12 curriculum director in Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools, Orange County Schools and Wake County Schools.

She was the 2017 Wells Fargo Regional Principal of the Year for the North Central region. Brown also is a North Carolina Teaching Fellows Scholarship recipient, and she received the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction PBIS Leadership Award.

Brown earned her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from UNC Greensboro, a Master of Arts in Counselor Education from North Carolina Central University and a Master of School Administration from North Carolina Central University.

“We are fortunate to have Ms. Brown joining our team,” Superintendent Dr. Anthony Jackson said. “Her experience and talents ensure we will continue to excel in tracking our students’ academic growth.”

Brown said she was looking forward to her new role.

“I have understood my entire career the power of education. I have witnessed first hand the joy that burns within a student that is ignited by a dedicated and highly effective teacher,” she said. “Chatham County Schools’ legacy is built on hiring efficient and effective teachers and administrators who carry the torch. I look forward to joining the ranks of this highly competent family and hopefully adding my name to the list of highly inspired and effective administrators.

Dr. Amanda Moran, assistant superintendent for academic services and instructional support, said the district is fortunate to have someone with Brown’s background assuming the role.

“We are thrilled to have Mrs. Brown join the Academic Services and Instructional Support Team,” Moran said. “Her expertise across multiple roles and districts will be a perfect match for the accountability and testing department. Her experience as a principal and director will ensure that the role of the testing office stays grounded in supporting schools.”
