On September 24, 2018, Catherine Maurice Wrenn Tanner, at age 98, was welcomed into the Kingdom of Heaven.  “Granny” Tanner was a force within the community – as a mother of five, a grandmother of thirteen, great-grandmother to nineteen, and a loving friend to siblings, neighbors, and anyone she ever met.  God’s light to this world shone through her life!
Born July 16, 1920, to C. C. Wrenn and Amanda Leona Miller Morris Wrenn in Southmont, NC, she attended Meredith College and graduated as an R. N. from Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing.  She spent many years tending to the needs of her patients, both in local hospitals and private duty home care.  With her giving nature, she taught nursing aides until she was 75 years old!
Family and laughter, gardening and canning, and serving our Lord in a myriad of ways filled her days with purpose and joy.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Jackson Leroy Tanner; by 13 of her 15 siblings; and by her son, William (Billy) Wrenn Tanner.  She is survived by her sister Jean Wrenn Andrews, her brother Carroll Willis Wrenn, her children John (and Cheri) Tanner, Carolyn (and Tom) Clark, Patricia (and Russell) Poole, and Jackie (and Bub) Griffin; by her daughter-in-law, Maria Cruz Tanner; by 32 grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and by numerous nieces and nephews, and their families.
The family received friends Wednesday, September 26, 2018 from 1 to 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Siler City.  The funeral followed at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Carl Belcher officiating.  Burial followed in Chatham Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the First United Methodist, PO Box 212, Siler City, NC  27344.
