Edwards has a hat in the ring

Buccaneer head coaching
vacancy.

thews star and Duke Univer-
sity graduate traveled down
to Tampa Bay on Friday to
meet with Buccaneers General Manager Jason Licht, who is George Edwards
searching for the 12th head he’s held since 2014, and one
coach in the history of the he held for the Buffalo Bills
NFL franchise. from 2010-2011, and with

a defense that ranked first in both
points and yards allowed in 2017, and in the top 10 in those catego-ries in each of the past three sea-sons while compiling a 47-32-1 record and playoff berths in 2015 and 2017.
Edwards played collegiately for Duke University under Steve Spurrier and led the Blue Devils to the 1990 Atlantic Coast Confer-
ence title.

After a stint as a graduate assistant at Florida in 1991,
Edwards coached at the colle-
giate level at Appalachian State (1992-95), Duke (1996) and Georgia (1997). The local product then was hired as linebackers coach for
Chan Gailey with the Dal-las Cowboys in 1998 before moving on to the Washington Redskins, who had hired Spur-rier, in 2002.

spent the 2005-2009 seasons with the Miami Dolphins, in-cluding a year under Nick Saban in 2005.

Edwards then was hired by Gai-ley as the defensive coordinator of the Buffalo Bills in 2010-2012
before going back to Miami in 2013-2014, and then heading to Minnesota the next season.

Last season, Edwards in-
terviewed for the then vacant
Chicago Bears head coaching position. Edwards has stiff competition for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers job, including former Arizona Cardinals head coach Bruce
Arians, and former Baltimore
Ravens head coach John Har-
baugh. Arians appears to have the inside track on the Buccaneers job according to sources coming out of Tampa Bay. A decision is expected to be finalized on the vacancy by mid-week.
