Why are you seeking this office?: I have held this office for eight years and would like the opportunity to complete some programs that I started.

What is your understanding of the responsibilities of the office you seek, and in one sentence, why do you believe you’re qualified to fill that role?: I built a career and reputation developing startup companies in North Carolina and Virginia over approximately 40 years.

One of the most important decisions that elected officials make is on the annual budget, which includes spending and tax rates. Do you have a budgeting philosophy? What’s more important to you — spending more to allocate resources to needed programs or cutting spending and keeping the tax rate low?: Whichever meets the needs of the program. They are not all the same. Some need seed money and some need careful management and planning.

Give us two goals that are specific, measurable and attainable you would have if elected: 1. Developing our town as a center for soccer development (facilities and tournaments). 2. Economic development – better paying jobs .

The Commissioners’ main responsibility is to place votes on issues crucial to the town. What would be your philosophy on choosing whether or not to vote for an item? Do you have an example of a similar decision in the past?: I would vote for an item that will enhance the economic development of the town with minimal expense impact to the budget. Example: Braxton Soccer Field. Paul Cuadros and I helped raise all the money for renovation of Braxton Field. No town money was needed. This was a win-win for Siler City.

What role do you believe a Town Commissioner plays in economic development?: Making smart choices as to the return on investment profile that we want to project to the outside world.

What do you think are Siler City’s three best features?: Central location with several good roads. Interesting amenities. Tiger rescue, State Zoo, Recreation facilities (lakes, athletic facilities, potential for solid job growth).

What are three areas where Siler City can improve?: Communications (state of the art ), reputation, solidarity of community spirit.

If you are not elected, what steps will you take to serve Siler City?: Haven’t thought about this yet.
