Why are you seeking this office?: I would like the opportunity to serve the town and citizens of this community to continue to build on the foundation started long ago.
What is your understanding of the responsibilities of the office you seek, and in one sentence, why do you believe you’re qualified to fill that role?: I would like the opportunity to give the citizens of my District 3 area a voice to help shape the policies to benefit all our citizens. I am always looking for ways to make improvements and build on what we already have, as a life long citizen I have participated on what it means to grow up and raise a family in this community.
One of the most important decisions that elected officials make is on the annual budget, which includes spending and tax rates. Do you have a budgeting philosophy? What’s more important to you — spending more to allocate resources to needed programs or cutting spending and keeping the tax rate low?: I have a conservative view on budgeting. Simple — don’t spend more than you take in. We need accountability to the citizens that every expenditure is needed and valid when so many programs require assistance.
Give us two goals that are specific, measurable and attainable you would have if elected: Number one is to facilitate the increase of revenue without an increase in taxes. By that I mean seeking out more ways the town can develop more economic development opportunities for our citizens and give us growth. Number two: to create more accountability in enforcement of our local ordinances.
The Commissioners’ main responsibility is to place votes on issues crucial to the town. What would be your philosophy on choosing whether or not to vote for an item? Do you have an example of a similar decision in the past?: The average citizen should the focus of the vote, if it is not in the constituents best interest then the choice is clear.
What role do you believe a Town Commissioner plays in economic development?: A salesman for the citizens of Siler City. A person that can reach across the community and show the benefits of what we have to offer. To embrace our diversified community.
What do you think are Siler City’s three best features?: 1. Siler City’s robust Parks and Recreational opportunities from the programs to the updated Bray Park Aquatic Facility 2. Our strong artist and small business entrepreneurs. 3. The potential for Progress.
What are three areas where Siler City can improve?: 1. Improvements in water and sewer to bring clean and quality water to every area of our town. 2. Overall cleanliness of the town: roadside trash and eyesore junk. 3. Keep on building our Parks and Rec. Department to be able to serve more of our citizens both young and old with an increase in diversified programs.
If you are not elected, what steps will you take to serve Siler City?: Continue attending meetings and being an advocate for our small business owners. To continue to be involved and attend programs and events happening in Siler City. Volunteer for our numerous boards that serve our community.
